Volleyball: Malaysia hope for a smashing start in Under-19 meet KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will be hoping for a smashing start against Hong Kong in the sixth Asian Boys' (Under-19) Volleyball Championship at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium in Cheras today. The Malaysia Volleyball Association (Mava) president, Datuk Lee Jin Xian said they need a win to put the team in the running for a quarter-final berth from Group A. “We must get off to a good start to stay on course for a quarter-final berth,” said Jin Xian. A total of 11 teams will compete in the nine-day championship, which also offers three places in the World Youth Championship in Mexico in August. Malaysia have been drawn in Group A with India, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia. Defending champions Iran, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Thailand and Sri Lanka are in Group B. Meanwhile, tickets for the championship, priced at RM5, will go on sale from 11am on competition days. Daily group passes and season passes are available at RM3 and RM25 respectively. Advance bookings can be made by calling the Mava office at 03-89982218. There will be a total of five games daily, starting from noon.
